Hunting, abortion and the EU
Recently we have heard a lot about how the EU is getting upset because the Maltese Government did not stop spring hunting.
The
EU is insisting that the Nationalist Government is bound to stop spring hunting
(as it is also bound to stop trapping the whole year round after 2008) once
Malta has now become a member in the EU, because of the Birds Directive.
The Government is trying to delay as much as possible to obey this EU order so
that perhaps the Local Councils elections next March would have passed, and also
the general election, which if not held next year has to be held the following
year.
And
thus they will “trap“ the hunters and trappers for the umpteenth time!
Perhaps you will say, but what has abortion got to do with spring hunting?
You
are right to have this thought because the EU hypocracy on abortion is so thick
that it will not be believed!
Let us explain.
The main reason why the European Union want to stop spring hunting is that during spring the birds will be flying from the African continent to Europe to lay their eggs.
And
therefore the EU, according to the Birds Directive, wants to ensure that, for
example, turtle doves and quail (because these are the only birds that can be
hunted by Maltese and Gozitan hunters) would have the chance of laying their
eggs and “the hatchlings“(?) of the turtle doves and quail “be born“, so
to say (!) and start living.
The thick hypocracy about abortion is this:
The
EU does not think the same about babies that have already been conceived and are
living but who are not yet born, because the EU has never felt the need to issue
a directive on babies who are still in their mother’s womb, by prohibiting
abortion in the European Union member countries!
In fact it is only in Malta that abortion is illegal and considered as a
criminal act.
In every other EU country some form of abortion exists.
Then,
according to the EU “human“ values, the babies who are still in their
mother’s womb do not have the same right to life and to be “born“ so that
they too will start living, as much as the turtle doves and quail and other
birds have during spring!
Is Smart City for the Maltese or for foreigners?
When recently Minister Gatt was asked from where they were going to find the
thousands of qualified workers in information technology to work in Smart City,
the Minister answered that they will bring them from India!
When this project was announced earlier on this year and the Minister had announced that 3,600 jobs were to be created in the IT sector, God only knows how many were already counting their chickens before they hatch.
And that this project – that the Prime Minister described as the “fruit”
of EU membership was going to solve for us the unemployment problem among our
youths who will qualify in this high information technology.
Apart from the news that workers will be brought from India, a few weeks ago we
heard the explosion of a far bigger bomb when Minister Gatt revealed that there
is still no final agreement about this project if no agreement is reached on
“crucial points”.
But we are certain that this agreement will finally be reached once the Minister
had spoken too much before the chickens were hatched.
This useless talk brought the Government with its back to the wall and these Dhubai speculators are experts at grabbing the opportunity.
It is not enough that the carrot that they had put before the Government, that of thousands of jobs at Rikażli, are going to be given an enormous piece of land near the sea on which they are going to build hundreds of luxurious apartments and villas, with which they will recover all the expense of building the office blocks and the rest of the project.
And
therefore one can say that they would have spent nothing from their pockets
except for the initiation of the project, until the building of villas and
apartments starts!
Don’t forget that these people from Dhubai – Tecom Investments – have been given all the chance to take in their hands the majority of the Maltacom shares even prior to signing everything about Smart City!
Who
do you think was smart, the Nationalist Government or the speculators from
Dhubai?
And that helicopter?
Let us remind you.
On 9 March 2005, we had said the the new helicopter service that had
started after the previous service that we had with the Russian helicopter
between Malta and Gozo was stopped, was not going to have a long life
notwithstanding the boasting by the Government and Minister Giovanna Debono.
Let us remind you of something else.
Prior to the referendum, Minister Giovanna Debono had spoken and said that if we become EU members, the Union was going to give ships and helicopters to Gozo.
We think that when she mentioned ships she was referring to fishing vessels and not to ships similar to those of the Gozo Channel.
But
about the helicopters she was clear and there is no doubt
what she wanted to say!
They have destroyed the Russian helicopter service because they told us that it
was not up to “European standards".
As
if the Russians who were the first country to put a satellite in space –
sputnik – are not going to know how to build an helicopter which perhaps will
only go up to a few hundred or a few thousand metres above ground!
But
there is something fishy behind this decision, that the Government allowed the
Spanish company to leave and the service to be stopped just as if nothing had
happened, and when it is the propituous time when winter is going to start and a
vital service, both to the Maltese as well as the Gozitans, and especially
tourists, such as that of the helicopter, was stopped.
We
have already heard about travel agents that have withdrawn holidays in Gozo
because they will not risk sending tourists to Għawdex when they may find
that they cannot cross between Malta and Gozo and vice-versa because of
storms that also cause the ferry service to stop.
The Government could have arranged for the helicopter service to continue if it decided to subsidize the service.
But it didn’t do so.
The
reason may be that it is more concerned to build an airstrip where small
aircraft can land.
There is no guarantee that afterwards the airstrip will not turn into a runway
where much larger aircraft can land.
And thererefore goddbye to one of the best attractions that enchant bott the tourists and the Maltese people – serenity.
Under
the European Union circus tent!
As we are sure that you have heard in the news, a few weeks ago Dr Joanna Drake,
the Chief of the European Commission representation in Malta, organized what was
called the EU Fair, under a white tent in Valletta.
To impress and make propaganda, Dr Drake said these bombastic words, “Europe
starts from Malta and not from Brussels".
If you have a look at the map of Europe, you will quickly become aware that Malta is at the lower end of Europe, as Europe starts from Portugal and the Canary Islands in the West, and Russia in the East.
Therefore Joanna Drake was saying nothing new!
The same Joanna Drake said more than this to show the EU in good light.
Apart from Europe starting from Malta and not from Brussels, she said:
“The people appear to feel comfortable with the EU because now they are realizing that we have many of the traditional and social values".
We
believe that she wanted to say that many of our Maltese traditional values are
the same as those of some of the other EU countries.
First of all we don’t know how and when Joanna Drake became aware that the
Maltese people “are feeling comfortable" with the EU.
And
more on how she arrived at the conclusion that the traditional values of the
Maltese people are the same as those of the EU countries – especially the big
ones.
History certainly teaches us that in various values and traditions, the Maltese
people have a different history.
Let’s take the love that the Maltese people have for peace.
And how they hate the destructive wars and armaments.
It is a historical fact that for hundreds of years, big European countries were involved in wars.
Sometimes
they started these wars against other European countries.
And sometimes they had to defend themselves from the attacks of those other
European countries:
France,
England, Italy, Germany, Spain and Portugal that were protagonists in these
wars.
Malta certainly never started wars.
On the contrary, the only war that Malta found itself drawn into, it was drawn into it by the UK.
And
if we go back hundreds of years, we had found ourselves into another war when
Malta was attacked by the Turks in 1565 – who are also trying to become EU
members!
As regards Christian values and traditions, there is a sea between us and the
rest of the big countries that lead the European Union.
The
greatest example is the fact, as we have already explained in another article in
this same page – is abortion, that we consider as a crime against the greatest
human right – the right to life.
Not
like the other countries in Europe where abortion is legal!
