The Immorality of the European Union

In our country criticism against the European Union is increasing and getting stronger and is not coming only from the CNI

According to the latest Eurobarometer of the European Union, during the last six months the number of Maltese that have trust in the EU was reduced by 10 per cent.

This results from a public opinion poll that was held before the Union decided not to trust the people of the member countries, because it is afraid that the majority will vote against that Treaty that it has made.

Last week two other writers had depreciating words the European Union in the newspaper (L-Orizzont).

We feel that it is important to remind readers what these two serious writers had written.

The correspondent with the pseudonym “Platerian”, on the 15th of the month wrote thus:

“…that which had to be the new constitution was changed into a treaty, because the leaders were afraid that the citizens will deny it, as they had done in some counties and just the same some leaders insist that the essential ingredients of the constitution are still integrated in the treaty. That which had to be a Constitution to give European citizens a voice in the institutions that regulate and influence their lives, was changed into an immoral stratagem into a treaty which does not have any popular mandate.”

It’s not without reason that politicians like Michael Frendo fear that the citizens will be confused. But Frendo and other European politicians ought to be afraid from the judgment of the people.”

Three days after “Platernian’s” writing, a letter appeared written by Monsignor Anton Gauci, who said that prior to reading what “Platernian” had written, he had read what was written in an article in a foreign Catholic English journal which showed its real preoccupation about the same immorality of the European Union mentioned by “Platernian”.

Mons. Gauci wrote that the journal said that after the French and Dutch had voted against the new Constitution for Europe, the leaders

“took two years searching for the way to bring us near the precipice”.

The English Catholic journal remarked that

“this is democracy European style – if the people say ‘no’ continue harassing them until they say ‘yes’! It also observed that the Lisbon Treaty took the place of the Constitution and was written in a most legal manner with the hope that the people will become confused and ignore it”!

The writer showed that as regards the Lisbon Treaty the people will have less say because what is required is simply a vote in Parliament, not a referendum for the people to decide.

And he continued to write thus:

“Today the European Union has an enormous number of officials which chosen by the people, but govern the life of these same people”.

Then Monsignor Gauci referred to some writers who

“arrived at the conclusion the Europe is going to be similar to Hitler’s version of a united pagan Europe. A Europe with politicians who exalt themselves, bureaucrats thirsty for power”.

But then the writer mentioned that some Catholic writers

“had some other observations. They said that we have been given a Europe that we are worthy of, after playing a lot with liberalism and materialism, we have made our bed and now the time has arrived to sleep in it.”

These same Catholic writers who said that “the new Europe is at war with its past and therefore its future is in danger.”

“This is the European Union that our Catholic leaders have made us members of”, remarked Monsignor Gauci.

From our end we say that Eddie Fenech Adami and Gwido DeMarco are guilty of this.

The European Union weakens our security

YOU have to be irresponsible or stupid to remove the controls on who enters Malta from some European Union country, when organized criminality is spreading from country to country and when drug traffickers are increasing everywhere.

You have to be stupid to be happy because the Maltese people can go to the EU free like when they go to Għawdex, when the price of this is the Sicilians and other Europeans can come to Malta without anyone knowing about their entry, as if they are going from one end of Sicily to the other.

To have a clear view of what this means to us that controls are removed on who enters our country from the EU countries and on who among us go to Union countries, let’s say that in every thousand persons there is only one that breaks the law.

This would mean that for the EU countries there is a risk that 400 Maltese (on a population of 400,000) can go there, and break the law.

For us this means that we have incurred the risk that 400,000 (on a population of 400,000,000 of the Union countries that have entered into the Schengen Zone can come to Malta and break our law.

Even if one does not consider the other Union countries and keeps in mind that the nearest country to us is Sicily, the risk for the Sicilians with the removal of controls on Maltese persons that go there is that 400 Maltese persons enter there and break their law, while for us the risk is that 7,000 Sicilians (on a Sicilian population of 7,000,000) that break our laws.

The irresponsible and the stupid among us wants us to rest our minds that with the Schengen agreement we will strengthen our security because control is going to be increased on whoever enters in some EU country from a country outside the Union.

As if to strengthen the external frontiers of the Union you should remove the internal frontiers between one Union country and another, not that you can and should, strengthen the external frontiers and also strengthen internal EU traffic.

They boasted that on the strength of the Schengen agreement, our country has strengthened these sectors:

* ‘data protection’,

* external border management’,

* Police Cooperation’,

* ‘implementation and management of the Schengen Information System’ (SIS),

* ‘Supplementary Information Request at National Entry’ and

* ‘issuing of visas by consulates in third countries’.

Our answer is that we could have improved and strengthened all these sectors without removing the controls on who enters our country from the EU.

This is not a question that we had to choose either these things or retain controls.

We should have decided to strengthen these measures at the same time as we keep the controls necessary for the security of our people.

Instead we have sacrificed the security of our people for the craving of European Union integration.

Waste of money for Ewro propaganda

The exaggerated expense of hundreds of thousands of Liri uselessly spent in propaganda for the entry of the Ewro in our country should raise the contempt of all those who have a sense of responsibility and are not benefiting from so much waste of taxes paid by the Maltese people.

This criticism of the scandalous expenditure and public funds in useless propaganda is being made independently from the advantages and disadvantages of the change to Ewro.

Because the excess propaganda in favour of the Ewro is not needed and the hundreds of thousands of Liri spent on it should be used for the needs of the curing of illnesses, such as the kidney machines whose lack we have to alleviate with philanthropic collections marathons or better be given to the Providence Home to be able to provide lodging for 70 applicants with special needs for which it does not have the space and funds for.

It is good to remember that with the 2003 EU membership agreement, the Union obliged our country to adopt its common currency instead of the Maltese Lira and the Maltese Government could not say no to that condition once it wanted the Union to accept us as members at all costs.

It is also good to remind readers that for many years prior to becoming members in the EU, the Maltese Lira had gained great strength and proof of this is the rate of exchange of the Maltese Lira of more than one and a half pounds Sterling and more than three American Dollars.

The Maltese currency did not need the Union common currency to be strengthened and we say this independently of the advantages and disadvantages that the Euro may bring us

It is therefore totally out of context and without any reason all this boasting and happened because we are going to remove our Lira to use instead the EU Ewro.

Who is serious and not without honour and his soul sold to foreigners, ought to show his sorrow that we are going to remove another piece of our national identity and our political sovereignty and thus give the foreigners of the European Central Bank more tools to control the economic and commercial life of our people.

The loss of the Maltese Lira is another step in the process built by our membership in the EU so that from an independent nation we become a region integrated in the European block.

Little time will pass from the introduction of the Ewro on the first day of next year that the people will not start feeling the increase in the cost of living due to the Ewro.

The concerts music and the fireworks on New Year’s Eve will be changed to the grumbling and the anger of the masses that will find that for yet another time, those who should have protected their interests betrayed them to serve the foreigners.

Then the number of those who like us believe that it is better that we get back our independence and freedom so that we can take the necessary steps to control the increase in the cost of living will increase.
