In the seven years 2007 – 2013 the Maltese and Gozitans are going to pay €420,000,000 to the European Union

Malta’s expenditure to the EU is going to increase - Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici

At a meeting for the members of the Campaign for National Independence (CNI), the CNI Chairman Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici insisted that after the European Parliament did not approve the European Union budget for 2007 – 2013, the member countries will now have to pay more financial contributions to the same EU.

He emphasized that from what is being said it appears that notwithstanding that Malta is going to fork out more money than had been agreed a few weeks ago, the EU contribution to Malta is going to remain what was agreed a few weeks ago.

During the meeting Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici explained to the members present that the Campaign for National Independence (CNI) is not going to lie down and is going to continue to work so that there shall be a majority against the EU in Malta.

He said that the Campaign for National Independence is going to continue to fight for our country to leave the EU because those fears mentioned by the CNI prior to the referendum are all now happening.

He mentioned how the EU is affecting in a negative manner the Maltese citizens and families due to the high cost of living, where the EU does not permit any control.

He also spoke about employment and said that also in this sector Malta has suffered a loss of employment.

Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici explained to those present that in the coming months the Maltese people shall have to experience another negative aspect of the EU, and that this is going to be in the pensions and social benefits.

He emphasized how the European Union does not want the Governments to have pity on old people and pensioners, because it considers that pensions are being a burden on the economies.

He said that Malta is going to have to introduce a system where part of the pension will be given by Government and another part from the private sector, and insisted that therefore the money of Maltese citizens is going to end up outside of Malta because there is no local company tat provides pension schemes.

He also mentioned how the profits of these companies which will be from the workers contributions which they have to pay to have a pension later in life.

He also spoke on the Sea Malta issue and said that the EU ordered the Maltese Government not to continue to hold its shares in this company.

Dr Mifsud Bonnici said that if the Government had to not continue to hold a majority of shares in the company it should have given those shares to the Maltese people and thus would have privatized the company and the work of Sea Malta would have remained in Maltese hands.

He insisted that the prices that were paid by foreigners to buy products from Malta and by those who were sending their products to Malta would have remained in the country.

He emphasized that had this been done there would not have been the laying off of 144 workers and the loss of the income from transport on imported and exported merchandise.

The Chairman also mentioned how today most of the investment in the EU countries is going to Asiatic countries among them China, where these factories would then send their products to Europe.

He said that these are going to those countries because in these countries production expenses are very low and the workers working conditions are worse and therefore the product can be produced at a very low cost.

He mentioned how the EU does not care about the exploitation of the workers in the countries where the financial investment and the industries that are closed in the EU members are established.

He said that the consequences of this policy are that products are produced in countries outside the EU are replacing those that used to be produced in the EU.

He continued to say that due to this there are millions of unemployed workers in the EU and unless the EU does not change its policy, products produced in the EU countries will continue to be reduced as well as the workers and employees.

Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, explained that now that
CNI has its offices in Valletta, it shall continue with its work and also increase its activity.

He reiterated that it is going to do so to continue to inform the Maltese people how they are being badly hit by Malta’s full membership in the EU.
