The Labour Party General Conference: Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici still has not drafted the motion on the European Union
Dr
Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici as a Labour Party Delegate has still not formulated the
motion that he is expected to present before the Labour Party General Conference
on the Union and said that he is going to do so when he understands the thinking
of the delegates about what they wish from the motion.
Dr
Mifsud Bonnici said this during a press conference of the Campaign for National
Independence CNI.
He said that thus he is still not in a position to say whether he is going to include a part in the motion that states that when the Labour Party is in Government it shall be bound to take Malta out of the European Union.
He insisted that he will probably not include this because he believes that the Party should continue to fight on the disadvantageous agreement that the Nationalist Government made with the EU.
“The
fight should not be with the EU but about the agreement that the Government
negotiated with the EU”, said Dr Mifsud Bonnici.
The Labour ex-leader said that he does not see why there is all this amazement
about the motion that he is going to present because every civilized and
democratic party has factions that continuously fight for their policy to be
embraced by the party.
At
the same time he promised his loyalty towards the party and towards what the
General Conference decides by saying that thus he is insisting that he is a
“delegate for life”.
Dr Mifsud Bonnici said that from those who answered him up to now the support
from those who support what he is proposing is a little more than those who do
not agree with what Dr Mifsud Bonnici is proposing.
More than once he insisted that the Labour Party fight should not be against the
European Union, but against the disadvantageous agreement.
Then, asked Dr Mifsud Bonnici, “what is wrong that a faction in the Party
militates democratically for the Party to continue objecting to the agreement
for full membership with the EU?”
He
said that his position in front of the Labour Party delegates is going to be for
the Labour Party to work to change the disadvantageous agreement with the
European Union.
In the meantime he announced that the Campaign for National Independence CNI is
going to start transmitting a TV programme every 15 days on Smash TV.
The
programme is going to be called “From words to facts” and is going to start
today at 8.20 p.m. and will be repeated every Wednesday morning.
