The Reform Treaty is a shame for democracy

In the most shameless manner, the leaders of some of the European Union countries (among them the Maltese Prime Minister), declared that the Union people will be happy that agreement had been reached about the new Union Reform Treaty, when these leaders made everything possible so that the people will not be given the opportunity to vote in a referendum because they would vote against it.

This anti-democratic action of the Union leaders is not going to increase popular support for the Union, but is going to strengthen the criticism of the millions of Euro-sceptics vis-à-vis the Union.

Because it is uncovering

* the Union’s hypocrisy

* that preaches democracy,

* but does not implement it in practice.

Worse than this,

* the Union is going

* against the will of the people

* who do not want the Union to take away more powers

* from the national governments elected by the people to lead them.

The fundamental objection of the people to the European Union is exactly this – that the Union is putting aside more and more the system of consent by all the members, for one where decisions are taken by a majority system against the will of the minority.

Because decisions taken by majority means that the people of the countries that do not agree with them, will have, against their will, submit to them, without having the means to change them, as happens in the case of decisions taken by a national Government, that the people can change with the democratic means of their vote in a General Election.

Politicians who accept that decisions will be taken by a majority of the countries of the Union will be

* betraying the trust of their people that had voted for them to implement their will,

* no to submit to the will of other people.

This is the crux of the objection for the new European Union Treaty that is going to increase the number of cases in which decisions will be taken with the majority system, not with everyone’s consent.

This Treaty

* increases 68 cases

in which decisions are taken by the majority system.

This means that the Maltese people can end up in a situation that they will have to accept decisions that the Maltese Government had voted against.

According to the legal experts, the new Treaty

* gives 105 new powers to the European Union, the same as would have been done by

* the old Constitutional Treaty

* that the French and Dutch people had rejected.

The new Treaty binds as much as the Constitutional Treaty would have bound.

The European Union is making it difficult that the people understand correctly what this Treaty means.

It rejected a request that was made to it to publish the two treaties that this Treaty is amending, with the amendments added to their respective articles.

The Union said that it is going to publish the amended version of the two treaties, but

* after the Reform Treaty had been ratified by all the countries,

* not before.

The new Treaty is going to increase the European Parliament influence in 19 sectors, but is going to decrease much more than this, the influence on the European Union of the national Parliaments of the member countries, in nothing less than 49 sectors.

That is why what is known as the “democratic deficit” of the European Union is going to increase with this Reform Treaty.

This is a great shame for the politicians that boast that they are democratic.

The greatest betrayal of the Maltese people

The greatest tort that the European Union caused us is the moral damage that is eroding our people’s moral fibre, particularly of youths.

Because the European Union

* puts money and

* personal gain instead of

* right and

* justice

as the measure of success in our lives and our personal work.

Therefore instead of trying to do what is right and just, the Union encourages us to think about ourselves and do what is in our own interest.

It has obscured our personal conscience and deadened the collective will of our people with promises of money and the bait of better employment.

The Union tactics

* are not to lift up the majority of the people,

* but of fattening the few that lead them and

* who have the power to influence them and

* keep them quiet.

And those chosen

* for their personal gain and advancement,

* sell the Union with their soul and honour

* as well as their people.

We are suffering this shame in our country with membership in the European Union.

The millions that the Union gives us

* do not end up for the majority of the people,

* but fatten the pockets of the few and of the chosen.

These do not give the Union millions to the masses, but alienate them with the boasting about the millions, while burdening them with greater burdens of higher prices for the necessities of life and property.

* The families of the workers sector,

* as well as the middle class sector of society,

* are being crushed with these great burdens that have vastly increased with our country’s membership in the Union.

But the Union’s few and chosen stifle with boasts and propaganda in its favour, the groaning and the protests of the families of the masses and ease their burden of the high prices and high cost of living and taxes, by concerts, singing and dancing.

The European Union has eroded the spine of the Maltese nation and made our country a prostitute hungry for its funds.

The Union has made our youths lose the zeal to sacrifice themselves for their country and to work for social justice for our people.

That is why the damage of membership in the Union is not only for the present, but also for the future of our country that depends on youths.

The leprosy of the great corruption that is the European Union DNA is being spread among us with membership in the Union.

They are making the people become accustomed to accept the sore of corruption as part of the progress that occurs in a Union member country.

Perhaps the greatest loss that our people have suffered with membership in the European Union is in the people’s moral.

They have led the Maltese people to believe that they are not capable of leading themselves and led them to think that it is better to leave it in the hands of Europe to be led.

This is the greatest betrayal of the Maltese people.

The great damage of membership in the EU

The people are fed up with listening to the fib that the European Union is going to give us 855 million Ewros in seven years, when it is going to take back 358 million from them.

The 497 million Ewros that will remain for us are not even enough to cover for the expenses that we will have to make and the loss of income that we are going to suffer, because of membership in the Union.

The millions that we are gong to give back, we will have to make good for from the taxes that we will have to pay.

It’s not without reason that they do not want to make and publish good accounts of how much in fact we are receiving every year due to membership in the Union.

Because if the accounts were to be published, it will be discovered how false and deceitful is what is said, that membership in the union is better for the people.

Membership in the Union is not in the interest of our people, not only because of the financial loss that we are suffering, but also for a number of other reasons.

Because membership in the Union

* increases the cost of living,

* increases expenses and

* inflates property prices,

while for the mass of the people,

* the wages and

* salaries and

* income do not increase as much as the cost of living,

* the increase in expenses and

* the increase in property prices.

This does not apply to the few hundreds that are doing well from Union membership, while the

* vast masses of the people

* were burdened with new burdens and

* greater expenses,

* as a result of Union membership.

The great damage of Union membership

* was suffered by the thousands of workers and employees

* that have become unemployed and

* others that have suffered a reduction in their working conditions.

It was also suffered by the entrepreneurs that Union membership has destroyed or reduced their enterprises and disrupted the investment that they had.

Badly hit by EU membership are the

* farmers,

* herdsmen and

* meat producers,

* pig and

* chicken producers,

except the few who got subsidies, while many have lost nearly everything.

Above all have lost with Union membership

* the housewives and

* old people

that have to daily face

* the increase in the cost of living that has gone through the roof,

* especially medicines,

* with the expenses that have all vastly increased.

The same have lost

* many youthful spouses

* who cannot meet the house prices that have exploded.

All our country has reason to grumble that our country is being sold piece by piece to foreigners now that controls for property buying by persons and companies from Union countries have been removed.

Our best enterprises are being handed to foreigners on the pretext of the free movement of capital and persons that the Union has imposed upon us.

With Union membership we have again fallen

* into foreign hands,

* ordered by foreigners,

* that pull the strings of our politicians,

* as is done with puppets.

More information about the European Union

The European Parliament

The salaries that the European Parliament members are to receive after the 2009 parliamentary elections are going to be different from those that they have today.

All the parliamentary members are going to have the same salary of

* 7,000 Ewros every month.

Today their salary is different for each member country.

They are going to be reimbursed for all transport expenses that they incur, according to receipts that they have.

Today they are paid a fixed amount.

They are going to continue to be given a daily allowance of

* 268Ewros, as well as the amount of

* 14,865 every month for their office expenses.

Recently, the European Union Ombudsman, P. Nikoforos Diamandorros, recommended that the European Parliament members should give information on what they receive from the Union to the public.

The European Parliament Officials insisted that the giving of this information goes against the protection of personal information (‘protection of personal data’), and that it had to be the Parliamentary Committee that should control the budget, as well as that it had to be the Union Auditors that had to monitor the monies paid by the Union to the Parliamentary Members.

From 2009 onwards, the European Parliament is going to have 751 members, instead of the present 785.

The greatest number that a member country can have is 96 members and the minimum will be six members.

The system is that the bigger the population of a country, the bigger will be the quota of the elected member, while the smaller the population, the smaller will be the quota of the elected member (‘digressively proportional’).

FIFA

The FIFA President (The World Football Association), Sepp Blatter, said that he intends to fight against the EU that does not allow a limit on the number of players from Union countries that are allowed to play with a club.

He insisted that a football team that is wholly made up from foreign players, bars the way for the youthful players of the country.

He wants that a team will be allowed to have not more than five foreign players.

But the EU considers the players as workers and therefore applies to them the principle of the free movement of workers, which means that the players of a member country have to right go and play in another Union country without any hindrance.

Sepp Blatter does not agree that the players are considered the same as employed persons.
