The euro does not save a country from the crisis

Countries that had adopted the euro, such as Greece, Ireland and Portugal, have fallen into such a dire crisis that they had to be bailed out by billions of euro not to go bankrupt.

These facts show that the adoption of the euro does not protect a country from financial crisis and neither does it help the country to alone overcome financial difficulties that they find themselves in.

With the introduction of the euro a country can still go bankrupt as much as any other country.

Indeed many insist that the adoption of the euro is a factor that contributes for the financial situation of a country to deteriorate.

This is because if the economic situation of a country demands that rate of interests be increased or decreased, or that the value of the currency be increased or decreased to stimulate economic activity and increase exports, a country that has adopted the euro cannot adjust none of these two monetary measures.

A country that adopted the euro, will bind a collar around its neck like a dog bound from its neck, does not remain free to go where it pleases.

A country that adopts the euro and finds itself in financial difficulties is forced by the European Union to feed its citizens with a very bitter medicine, if it wants to be helped.

The European Union insists that for a country to be given a bailout of billions of euro,

* it has to introduce austerity measures,

* such as reduction in wages and pensions,

* cuts in social services,

* increase in taxes,

* reduction of public sector employment and

* in public projects spending.

These austerity measures

* reduce the country’s Government spending,

* but also reduce the Government income,

* reduce the country’s economic activity,

* increase unemployment and social poverty in the country.

Although it is doubtful whether these austerity measures better the financial situation of the country, it is certain that they push back the economic and social situation of the country that implements them.

A country burdened with debt can never reduce its debt if it adopts austerity measures that while reducing spending, also reduce Government income.

To reduce debt, the Government has to have more income, not less. For the Government to increase its income, it needs more people who are working to pay more taxes and more social contributions.

A Government policy that results in more people working is against the austerity measures that the European Union is imposing on many of the countries that adopted the euro.

The Zone of the Euro countries has become one of incessant crisis, instead of a zone of prosperity that they used to preach to us before we adopted the euro.

Foreigners in Malta and the European Union

The Government has been caught that it has lost all control on foreigners in Malta because of the European Union.

This is because of the free movement of persons where every person from the Union has the right to go and live wherever it wants in every member country.

But more than this, we have to remember that the Union ordered the Government to repeal every reservation that it had made to the Refugee Convention and to implement the Dublin II Convention  so that we ended up full of illegal immigrants.

In fact, the government and even those organizations that defend the illegal immigrants and who say that there are only a few hundred of them were caught lying on how many illegal immigrants are in Malta after a Parliamentary question that was answered by the Prime Minister.

It resulted that according to Parliamentary Question 26450 of 6 June, 2011 there are more than 18,648 foreigners who have a Maltese Identity Card who are not coming from the EU member countries.

It also resulted that they are from 120 countries from around the world and mostly from these countries:

* 3,570 from Somalia,

* 1,426 from Eritrea,

* 1,008 from China,

* 882 from Libya,

* 874 from Russia,

* 762 from Nigeria,

* 748 from Yugoslavia,

* 588 from Sudan.

This means that the Government because of the EU orders has lost all control on who is allowed to enter Malta and remain in our country because to have all those thousands of foreigners with a Maltese Identity Card means that you no longer command in our country but is being commanded by the EU.

Now everyone knows what it means to obey the EU and continue to keep the illegal immigrants in Malta where there are at least 6,346 Africans apart from hundreds if not thousands who have entered quietly and no one knows about them.

This is even if we do not count the Libyans who are also from Africa.

Can we know what those hundreds of Chinese, Russians and Yugoslavians and from every other country around the world who were issued with a Maltese Identity Card which means that they have been here or will be here more than six months are doing in our country?

We also have thousands others who remained here when their visa expired and the Government is doing absolutely nothing to catch them and send them back to their own countries.

Whoever has his eyes in his face can see these thousands of foreigners working instead of Maltese workers. Aren’t they all stealing the bread, work and living of the Maltese workers and their families?

How can the Maltese people keep their minds at rest and be in their homes without any fear when we have so many thousands of foreigners the majority of whom came here illegally or remained here illegally without knowing anything about them?

How can the people be with their minds at rest when there are so many thousands of illegal immigrants who no one knows who they are because they had destroyed their papers that show who they really are?

Whoever has nothing to hide hides and destroys his identity?

What did they do in their own country not to want to show who they are?

When is the Government going to stop illegal immigration and send everyone away?

The Campaign for National Independence CNI had collected many thousands of signatures for the petition for the Government to stop illegal immigration.

When are the parliamentary groups’ whips going to find the time to receive this petition?

The Refugee Agency will be damaging for Malta

The Maltese Government is happy that the European Union has accepted the office of the Refugee Agency in our country, and the European Commissioner responsible for refugees, Cecilia Malmstrom, came to Malta for the official opening that is in the Malta Transport building in Marsa.

If Prime Minister Borg Olivier was still alive, he would have strongly opposed that the European Union Agency on refugees to have its office in Malta.

Because he insisted in 1971,

* when Malta signed the International Refugee convention,

* that our country, due to its physical limitations,

* the density of the population and the limitations that it has,

* cannot accept refugees and therefore

* he excluded a number of provisions of the convention from applying to Malta.

With a betrayal of national interests, the Maltese Government, in the negotiations for our country’s membership in the European Union, yielded to the threats of the European Union that told it that if it does not put aside all the reservations that Borg Olivier had made to the Refugee Convention, Malta would not be allowed to become a European Union member.

This betrayal opened wide the doors of our country for the invasion by thousands of illegal immigrants and for the wave of applications for the granting of the status of refugee and the right of asylum.

Now the presence in our country of the Refugee Agency does not permit our country to object to grant asylum to all those who qualify to be granted the status of refugee and therefore the opening of the office of the Refugee Agency is not a happy occasion, but of serious concern to all those who really have the interests of our people close to his heart.

It can be said that the vast majority of illegal immigrants who find themselves in Malta wanted and still want to go to some big country in Europe.

But the European Union does not permit Malta to allow them to go where they wished and still wish to go in Europe.

The European Union obliges us to keep the illegal immigrants forcefully in our country and if they try to leave our country they end up in prison.

The European Union does not do so for our interests and neither for the benefit of the illegal immigrants, but does not allow them to go to Europe because it does not want other member countries to be burdened with their burden.

That is, with its rules on illegal immigrants the European Union is protecting the interests of the other Union countries by going against the interests of our country.

The greatest help that our country can give to the illegal immigrants is to allow them to be free to go where they always wanted to go to Europe, without taking any notice of the European Union opposition who cannot accuse us that we are treating badly these people.

The Maltese Government to obey the European Union even arrived at the absurd situation of not giving permission to the Libyans to come for a visit to Malta, but accepted to keep in our country Libyans who come like illegal immigrants and because there is fighting in Libya, the government does not send them back.

The Refugee Agency is not going to help to reduce illegal immigrants in our country. Indeed, probably it will be the cause for them to increase, and in that case, is going to be damaging and not of benefit to us.

Parliament and the fighting in Libya

Confronted with the massacre of the civilian population that NATO is committing in Libya, can the Maltese people remain silent?

Our country has the duty to actively work for peace,

* but our country’s Prime Minister,

* to obey what the European Union wants him to do,

* not only is he not implementing this duty,

* but even acting against

* by supporting the war that NATO is conducting against Libya.

The Prime Minister hides behind the excuse that the military intervention in Libya is authorized by the United Nations.

But if he is not mentally retarded, he knows that the NATO attacks are not being made to protect the Libyan civilian population, but to help the Benghazi rebels in their offensive against the government forces and to remove the Libyan Government led by Colonel Gaddafi.

The Prime Minister, if he is not false when he says that he wants to give all humanitarian aid to the Libyans, knows that best humanitarian action would be that of stopping fighting that is causing so much human suffering, wounding and deaths.

But, to obey what the European Union wants him to do he is putting aside this humanitarian responsibility and is insisting that for there to be a cease fire now both Gaddafi and his family have to leave from the Libyan Government.

Gonzi is therefore responsible together with Obama, Sarkozy and Cameron and the Benghazi rebels for every death and every wounding that are happening daily in Libya as long as they do not accept a cease fire.

A cease fire does not mean an end of the Libyan crisis and neither does it mean an agreement between the two sides.

After a cease fire negotiations have to be held between the Libyan Government and the Benghazi Rebels Council on all the changes that are fitting to be made in the Libyan leadership and on the fundamental human rights and liberties that the Libyan people should have.

If Colonel Gaddafi continues to have a say in the country’s leadership should be decided by all the people by means of a free vote that the Libyan Government has already said that it is ready to accept to be held under the control of the United Nations and the African Union, with NATO able to send observers.

There is therefore no justification for the Maltese Government and the governments of the countries who are attacking Libya as well as the Benghazi rebels to continue objecting to a cease fire and the start of negotiations.

Russia is insisting on this being done.

The African Union has long been insisting in this.

His Holiness the Pope many times has appealed for this to be done.

But Gonzi, Obama, Sarkozy and Cameron do not want to listen and are happy to see more Libyans being killed.

If Gonzi has sold his soul to the European Union, the Maltese people expect the Maltese Parliament to express the wish of the Maltese people for a cease fire in Libya and NATO to stop their attacks.

Parliament should invite the Benghazi rebels and the Libyan Government to send their representatives to meet in Malta to talk and agree on a cease fire without any further delay.

The Maltese Parliament should not feel uncomfortable if the Governments of the countries that are participating in the Libyan war and the European Union leaders will not be happy with the Maltese initiative.

It is better that the initiative will have been taken to bring peace to our neighbouring country and stop the deaths and wounding of more Libyans.

The governments may be against, but the majority of their people like the Maltese people surely wish for the Libyan war to stop.
