CAMPAIGN FOR NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE

Was, is and shall remain in favour of Maltese workers

and against Malta's membership of the European Union

WE SWEAR TO FREE MALTA FROM THE SLAVERY, COLONIALISM AND DICTATORIAL ILLEGAL EUROPEAN UNION RULE

TELL YOUR PARLIAMENTARY DEPUTY THAT YOU WANT MALTA TO REGAIN INDEPENDENCE AND FREEDOM

In the seven years 2007 – 2013 the Maltese and Gozitans are going to pay €420,000,000 to the European Union

The Labour Party should continue with its opposition to Malta’s EU Membership Agreement

By means of a letter that he sent confidentially to all the Labour Party Delegates, Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici appealed to them to give their support for a motion that is expected to be presented to the General Conference which has the aim of encouraging the Labour Party to continue with its opposition to the Membership Agreement of Malta in the European Union, because this agreement is disadvantageous to the people, especially the Maltese workers.

In his letter, which has been answered yesterday by the Labour Party’s Leadership, Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici said that:

It appears that we have those who insist that the Party should not continue to fight against the Membership Agreement tat the Nationalist Government made with the European Union, because the majority had voted in its favour. It is also being said that for the Party to win the next election, it has to put aside the European Union issue and that the General Conference in 2001 had decided that the Party accepts as conclusive the result of the Election. I am very sorry that I do not agree with this reasoning.

First of all, it is being forgotten that in the year 2003 (two years after 2001), the Party decided that if the Party wins the Election, it will just the same hold a referendum about Partnership and about membership If we had won, the result of the Election would not have been considered as being conclusive; because we have lost, why is it conclusive?

In the second instance, on 14 July 2003, the Party voted in Parliament against the ratification of the Membership Agreement. If with the result of the Election we should no longer be against the Membership Agreement, why did we vote against the ratification of the Agreement on 14 July?

In the third instance, if the Party insisted that the Membership Agreement that the Nationalist Government made was disadvantageous and damaging to the people, especially the workers, because a majority of 12 thousand votes had approved the Agreement, it just the same remained disadvantageous and damaging to the people and the workers.

In the fourth instance, when in an Election the majority chooses an electoral programme of a party, the other party does not change and agrees with the programme of the winning party and throws away its programme. The fact that he winning party is allowed to implement its programme, does not keep the losing party from continuing to do its utmost to persuade a majority in the following Election to approve its programme.

Above all I remind you that in the issue of the Agreement made with the European Union there is the freedom of our people in question, and there is the policy of neutrality and the policy of working for peace, and there is also the issue of the breaching of the Constitution of our country. The Agreement that the Nationalist Government made with the European Union has lost us the freedom and the policy of neutrality and the policy of working for peace, and breaches the Constitution.

It was the Labour Party that acquired the full freedom for the Maltese people and made our country neutral and active in working for peace Now it has again been our Party’s bad luck to lead the second fight to acquire back full freedom, neutrality ad active work for peace. In the first fight, our predecessors were Steel Soldiers. Like them we should be made of steel, not made of wood shavings. We shall win by fighting correctly and not by accepting that which is wrong.

In the coming General Conference I appeal to you to give your support for the motion that encourages the Labour Party to continue in its opposition to the Membership Agreement that is disadvantageous to the people and especially the Maltese workers, and for it to lead the Maltese people to acquire back full freedom; for it to lead the Maltese people to re-embrace a policy of neutrality and of active work for peace; for it to arouse the Maltese workers to unite to protect and increase the opportunities of work in our country; and for the Labour Party to arouse the people to defend the Constitution drafted by the Labour Governments of 1974 and 1987.

I hope that you agree with this. In any case I appreciate to know what you think”.
