The European Union made us lose our honour

By Dr Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici Chairman CNI

Now that we are members in the European Union, its foreign policy is going to be a threat for the protection and peace of our country.

The protection and peace of our country in bygone years were guaranteed by the policy of neutrality and non-alignment.

With membership in the European Union, our country has become in the eyes of foreigners one part with the Western world countries.

Those people who see the Western countries as their enemies, now that we are in the Union, they see us as partners with their enemies.

They do not trust us as they did before when they used to see us as their friends.

Because they know that in every issue that they will have with the Western countries, Malta as a member in the Union shall be against them and with the Western countries.

Many of the Western countries members in the European Union such as England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain are afraid that at any moment they will suffer a terrorist attack, as they have already had or worse.

Once Malta as a member in the Union supports them, she shall also expect to suffer a terrorist attack.

More so when Parliament, on 6 July last year, voted in favour of what the new Constitution drafted by European Union which binds every member country to give its help to another member country that suffers a terrorist attack.

Pope’s warnings

Last week, the Pope, in a speech that he madder to the diplomatic representatives of the world countries warned that we are in a war spread around all the world and that the fight between the Western civilization and other civilizations can become more severe.

While he condemned terrorism he also condemned the enormous expenditure in arms and armaments.

The media of the Western countries barely gave prominence to the Pope’s words against the scandalous expenditure in arms and armaments.

Some of the big European Union countries have a strong industry that produces arms and armaments and have a great income from their sales.

It could therefore be said that the European Union is, through it great arms and armaments industry, supporting the fighting and wars that there are in many corners of the world.

It should be remembered that a while ago there was trouble between the United States and the European Union because the United States objected that the European Union removed the embargo on the sale of modern arms to China.

The European Union does not want to lose the profit that it makes on the export of arms and armaments, even though the profit is made on the death of innocent people and the mass destruction of property.

In the new Constitution drafted by the European Union there is written that the member countries have to increase their military expenditure and coordinate their arms and armaments, apart from building of the Union army.

The Maltese Parliament voted in favour of this on 6 July last year and Malta is giving its share in the expenditure for the setting up of the Union army.

Thus our country is going against what the Pope said in his speech last week.

Trouble with Iran

This week the European Union made other steps that can lead to serious trouble with Iran on the nuclear programme that this country wants to implement.

The Union is pressing for the issue to be presented before the United Nations Security Council, because the Union does not want Iran to continue with nuclear development that can end up in a nuclear bomb, although Iran insists that the development is for the peaceful use of nuclear power.

Even in this issue the European Union is barefaced. Because while the Union is objecting to Iran’s nuclear programme, it has as much nuclear bombs as much as it wants.

England and France have been storing nuclear bombs for years.

In many Union member countries there are nuclear arms of the United States military forces stationed in Union countries.

The European Union rests on the military protection of NATO that has nuclear arms and bombs.

While it insists that Iran should not continue with the development of its nuclear programme, the European Union is not ready to dismantle its nuclear arms and renounce once and for all to the nuclear bomb.

The Union is neither ready to tell Israel to remove her nuclear bombs.

Years ago the Maltese Parliament had passed a resolution against nuclear arms and armaments.

With our membership in the EU, our country is now in an organization that stores nuclear arms and armaments and is ready to use them, if it feels the necessity to do so.

And now Malta is going to be part of the EU policy against Iran because of the nuclear issue.

Today Malta does not have the courage to tell the EU that neither Iran nor the Union should have nuclear arms.

If we accept that the Union should have nuclear arms, we will be hypocrats like the Union if we object to Iran to have these arms.

It made us lose our honour as a people that did not accept nuclear arms under any circumstances, that their use is a crime against humanity.

The European Union can easily collapse –

Campaign for National Independence

Derek Bennett who resides in Walsall, England, frequently writes in the English newspaper that is issued daily in Malta about the European Union.

In the beginning of this week his last letter appeared in answer to as criticism that Martin Buttner had made to him on what Bennet had written about the rebate that the European Union gives to England every year.

Bennett’s letter has a number of comments that are interesting and it is good that they should be made known to Maltese readers.

Bennet said in his letter that his greatest objection for the European Union is not because of the financial burden that the British people have to carry because of Britain’s membership in the European Union.

He sustained that he mostly objects because the Union is a threat for the democratic life of the British and for the sovereignty of England because the laws f the Union overcome the laws made by the British Parliament.

Derek Bennett commented that the situation will get worse if the Constitution for Europe which he called ‘frankenstein’s monster’, is again given life according to what was said by Austria that has the Presidency of the Union for the first six months of this year.

Bennet says that the worst politicians who deceive the people are managing the Union.

He reminds that there already was a European Commission (Santer’s) that had to resign because of corruption.

He also reminds that for 11 whole years the Union’s auditors refused to sign the Union accounts because there was no indication where great amounts of money had ended up.

He also reminds that the Union persecuted its officials who uncovered tampering and shortcomings.

These were Marta Andreason and Paul van Buitenen that the Union terminated their employment because they had uncovered the facts.

Derek Bennett has since 1990 been complaining about the European Union shortcomings.

It is because of this that he supports the Campaign for National Independence and hopes that at last the people will understand that it is a farse to try to make from all Europe a single country and state.

When the people understand this, the fight that those who think like Bennett shall be won.

He forecasts that as had happened in the case of the inefficient and lacking in tolerance that was the Union of Soviet Republics (USSR), the same shall happen to the European Union that shall collapse and be destroyed under the burden of the incompetence and bureaucracy that it has.

The great defeat that the European Commission had this week, when for the second time the European Parliament voted against its directive about the subduing of the work of port workers is proof of the arrogance and inefficiency of the members of the Union Cabinet.

The other vote against the budget agreed to by the European Council is another proof of the disorganization and disagreement that there is in the union between the member states and the representatives of the people of the Union.

Two events that forecast how easily the Union can collapse.
