CAMPAIGN FOR NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE

Was, is and shall remain in favour of Maltese workers
and against Malta's membership of the European Union
By the Campaign for National Independence CNI
TELL YOUR PARLIAMENTARY DEPUTY THAT YOU WANT MALTA TO REGAIN INDEPENDENCE AND FREEDOM
The European Union is going to create a social crisis for us
It was recently stated in the newspapers that the European Union had not received a report from the Maltese Government about the integration of foreigners with the Maltese people.
It was disclosed in the same newspapers that the European Union had initiated legal procedures against Malta last July because the Maltese Government had not implemented in Maltese law the European Union directive about the granting of rights to Union citizens and to those from other countries.
The interference by the European Commission forced the Maltese Government to publish regulations that grant rights to Union citizens that are in Malta.
These citizens from EU countries
* were granted the right to stay in our country,
* to work and bring their families,
* if they are going to stay for more than one year in Malta.
They were also granted
* the right to all the social services that we have in our country, such as
* social housing,
* free health services, and
* free education.
The European Union obliges our country that the rights granted to the Union
citizens, be also granted to citizens of countries that are not members in the
EU, that have such an agreement with the EU.
This means that foreigners from the EU and foreigners from other countries have
the right to come to our country and take the work of Maltese workers and enjoy
all our Maltese social rights.
The European Union wants more than this.
Because
* it wants to force us keep the illegal immigrants in our country and
* integrate them with our people.
It wants us to tell it what steps we have taken to do this.
The EU intends
* to continue to impose its will on us about the illegal immigrants,
* against the will of our people.
It wants to change the regulations so that illegal immigrants will not be kept in detention for more than three months, and afterwards, be allowed to roam free in the country.
It also wants that child immigrants shall not be kept in detention for three months but released forthwith.
This change in regulations is going to result in a situation where
* following the immediate release of children from detention centers,
* their parents will also be given permission to come to our country
* on the pretext of the unification of the family.
The entangled issue of the illegal immigrants is becoming more entangled with their marriages of convenience with Maltese citizens.
* Then after the marriages fail,
* the Maltese parties and their children will become a burden on the social services, and
* the illegal immigrants will remain here, and
* they will be able to bring their previous partners whom they had married in their country, and
* all this will be allowed on the pretext of the unification of the family.
Together with the social disaster that the European Union is causing us with its regulations on illegal immigrants, the Union is causing us to incur very high expenses.
According to government releases,
* every illegal immigrant in our country is costing the Government Lm13 every day, and
* until now, this year 1,581 have already entered into our country.
This
means that this year the Government expenses are going to increase by more than
seven and a half million Maltese liri that have to be paid from our taxes.
To rub salt into the wound, it did not even take any notice of the
Government’s request for the financial burden to be shared among all the EU
countries.
The European Union, as the dictatorship that it is, only wants to dictate to us.
But
it doesn’t want to share the burden with us.
The illegal immigrants problem is one of our country’s main problems.
Instead of subduing it, we are
allowing it to increase and become a crisis due to the fault of the European
Union that does not allow us to apply our law to send back foreigners that do
not have permission to enter into our country, or to remain in our country after
a certain time.
The politicians do not have the courage to stand up to the European Union, and
the lack of their action is causing enormous harm to our people.
The illegal immigrants issue shall be the main reason to force the majority of the Maltese people to decide to renounce to the European Union membership agreement.
This is the only way to free our
people from the great social crisis created by the illegal immigrants and the
foreigners that are all breaking our law.
A few days ago the European Commission was clear that it is not going to change its policy that commercial Shipyards shall not be granted State aid.
This
means that the European Union is not going to allow the Malta Shipyard to be
granted aid after December next year, even if this means that the Shipyard will
be closed.
The workers organizations should make it clear to the EU that they are not going to allow the closure of the Shipyard, even if this means that the Maltese people will not remain members in the EU.
Between
the Shipyard being kept open and membership in the EU, the workers organizations
should, without any hesitation, say that they choose the Shipyard, not
membership.
We
should tell the people that membership in the EU is costing the country much
more than the aid granted to the Shipyard.
We
should state that the Shipyard is more useful to our people than the EU
membership.
We should show that EU membership has already cost us thousands of jobs from factories that have closed and that we are not ready to allow the loss of another 1,7000 jobs with the closure of the Shipyard.
After
all, we should insist that the Shipyard plan that the Union imposed upon us in
2003 was found to be deficient and instead of helping the Shipyard to become
self-sufficient has hindered it more and decreased its work, not increased it.
We should also remind them that it is not the EU that is giving aid to the
Shipyard.
The aid for the Shipyard is coming from the Maltese people.
Therefore
the Union should not interfere what aid the Maltese people choose to give to the
Shipyard.
The pretext that the Union uses to prevent aid from being given to the Shipyard that aid disrupts free competition between our Shipyard and those of other Union countries is baseless.
Free competition is not some commandment that should not be broken.
Competition is not an end in itself and is not there for the benefit of the competitors in trade.
It is there for the benefit of consumers, the people, by working to reduce prices.
In the case of our Shipyard, the prices that it quotes will be for the benefit of the Maltese people because the payments collected by the Shipyard will not be paid to foreigners.
If
with the aid that the Shipyard is given it wins more work orders, that work will
not be lost to other Maltese competitors, but to foreigners.
Therefore, when the Union does not allow the Shipyard to be granted aid, it will
be protecting foreign interests, not those of the Maltese people.
Not
only that, but it will be causing harm to our people, because of the lack of aid
and the closure of the Shipyard, we will lose 1,700 jobs and the millions that
the Shipyard earns in foreign currency with which are paid the wages of the
1,7000 Maltese workers or the greater part of them.
We should also not accept that the EU does not want that the people pay from their taxes the aid given to the Shipyard.
Because
the Union wants greater burden to be borne by our people because of its policy
that it imposes on us with respect to illegal immigrants.
According to an official release, every illegal immigrant is costing us Lm13 each day.
There are thousands of illegal immigrants in our country.
But
* if we take the number of 1,700 illegal immigrants which is as much as there are Shipyard workers,
* we find that the EU is forcing our people to pay each year more than Lm8 million for foreign immigrants
*
but
does not want us to pay a much lower amount of aid to 1,700 Maltese Shipyard
workers.
We should tell the European Union that apart from the social upheaval that the
closure of the Shipyard shall cause, the social aid that will have to be given
to the 1,700 discharged workers will cost much more than the financial aid that
will be necessary for the Shipyard to continue operating.
We insist that the Shipyard is the greatest technical institute for trade instructions that our country cannot do without and that should be utilized to give practical training to our youths who receive academic training at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology and that every financial aid given to the Shipyard shall be as payment for the practical training in trades that our youths will receive from it.
It
is great political hypocrisy that they boast about Independence when they caused
it to be lost to our country three years and four months ago by making us
members in the European Union on 1 May 2004.
Because the people will be independent when they are sovereign and masters of their own will.
Being members in the Union we are dependent upon it in all sectors in which the Union has the power to order what our Government must do.
Our
country again became a colony and it is a great shame that they are taking the
people for a ride by forcing them to celebrate what they had lost and that was
won 43 years ago on 21 September 1964.
It is a greater shame and great
political dishonesty to boast that we have sacrificed our people’s
Independence to acquire 855 million Ewros that the European Union promised us
for the next seven years, without mentioning the great millions that we bound
ourselves to give the Union during the same time.
Moreover, whoever wants to be just with the people should also consider how many
more millions we shall have to pay every year in expenses, and when he adds the
millions in expenses with the millions that we shall have to pay every year to
the Union, will find that they will total to more than the 855 million Ewros
that we are to be given by the Union.
Whoever does not want to make these sums that deflate all the boasting about the
855 million Ewro, will be deceiving the people and betraying their
interests.
Whoever
* remains silent and
* does not mention these things,
* not to open the people’s eyes against our country’s membership in the European Union,
*
is an accomplice in this deceit of
the people.
Once what we have to pay to the Union and the expenses that we have to make
because we became members in it is more than it is going to give us, he should
have the decency to tell the people that in fact we are making good for the
Union’s 855 million Ewros with our people’s taxes.
Dimech, Mizzi, Borg Olivier and Mintoff worked for the Maltese people not to
remain under foreign rule.
With the agreement for membership in the European Union our people were again brought under foreigners who decide what we have to do in the most important sectors, among them,
* the illegal immigrants sector which,
* notwithstanding that they breach Maltese law,
* the Union does not allow us to apply the law against them and send them back.
Not even in this are we any longer
sovereign and independent to do as we wish with foreigners in our country!
WE WANT INDEPENDENCE FROM THE EUROPEAN UNION
