WELCOME TO THE CNI WEBPAGE
CAMPAIGN FOR NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE
Was, is and shall remain in favour of Maltese workers
and against Malta's membership of the European Union
First of May and the EU

It
was a spontaneous and very natural reaction and showed how the masses are still
against Malta’s membership in the European Union.

As if it was not expected that there would be detestation for Cotugno’s blasphemy from the shipyard workers who were dismissed because of the agreement made with the EU.
And also by housewives who could not hold back from showing their anger because they are suffering an increase in the cost of living because of the Union’s policy and directives.
It
is the same in the case of those betrothed who cannot have their own home in
view of the vast increase in property prices following membership in the EU.
When today an ever increasing number are becoming aware how prior to the Union membership referendum they were swindled and cheated with the promise of better times and a new spring, it was not fit for Cotugno to come and profane Workers Day by saying that for the grace of God Malta became a Union member.
Today
many know that it was a tragedy and a misfortune for our people.

There is a strong opposition that is ever increasing the more the Union’s policy is being put to work and the more its directives are implemented.
The
opposition should increase as soon as the derogations that the Union had given
us when the membership agreement was concluded expire.
It
is a great shame that the most dear day for the workers, the First of May, is
also the anniversary of an event that is of great detriment to the workers class
– the entry of our country into the European Union.
What happened on the First of May witnesses that the workers are still against the membership of our country in the European Union, notwithstanding that three years have passed from the event.
Notwithstanding
also the continuous propaganda that is being made in favour of the Union and the
boasting of how much the people are benefitting from Union funds, while the
people are spending more because of membership and paying the Union, we hope
that the lesson is learned from those who want true prosperity for Maltese
workers.
Loss
of work because of the EU

Because with the Cospicua Shipyard (Malta Drydocks) and with the Marsa Shipyard (Malta Shipbuilding) the European Union was very harsh in insisting that the Maltese Government must terminate the Malta Shipbuilding and decrease greatly the Cospicua Shipyard.
The European Union forced the Maltese Government that in order to be able to conclude the accession agreement with it to be bound that
* there shall be only one Shipyard,
* that the number of workers shall be greatly reduced,
* that the amount of repairs and shipbuilding would be limited each year,
* would not be greater than that fixed by the Union, and
* that the amount of subsidies shall be reduced until it would be totally eliminated by 31 December 2008.
Therefore, in view of membership in the Union, hundreds of tradesmen did not continue to be employed by the Shipyard, shipbuilding ceased to exist, and for ship repair, foreign workers were being frequently brought over instead of trying to increase work for the Shipyard workers.

This brought the Shipyard in a position that not only it could not try to find work of a certain extent, but even to refuse work opportunities that it could find.
It is not really possible for the public to learn about the work opportunities
that the Shipyard is refusing because of the obstacles that the European Union
has made for us.
But during the last few days a case was discovered in Malta where a person has been finding the Shipyard doors closed to him.
The building of ten ships
The contract for the building of ten ships would have cost a total of 5 Billion $ and would have provided work for hundreds of workers for a number of years.

Since the Shipyard is Government property, it is the Government that has to
decide whether the Shipyard accepts the building of the ten ships
notwithstanding what the European Union wants, or otherwise the Shipyard has to
comply with what the Union wants and does not accept that order because of the
size of the contract – because it means
*
a number of workers greater than the Union wants in the Shipyard,
* volume of work greater than that which the Union wants the Shipyard to do, and
*
a number of hours much greater than the amount of man-hours that the Union
ordered that the Shipyard can do in a year.
There is no doubt that national interest dictates that we accept this big work contract for Maltese workers, whatever the European Union says.
This work opportunity shows us what a great tort Union membership and the
agreement which the Union has bound us with with respect to the Shipyard has
caused us.
The
hunting decision and the European Union

The excuse which he brought was because of the amount of illegal hunting which he said the police had reported in the last few days.
No proof of this was brought.
Many believe that the European Union forced the Government to stop hunting, otherwise this would have endangered that the Union would go back on the agreement that our country would introduce the euro next January.
It is a fact that the Union does not want spring hunting, and the Government found an excuse to submit to that which the Union wants from it, since it needs the Union.
The excuse of the Government for stopping hunting cannot be believed, because the decision taken does not make sense except for those who do not want the thousands of our Maltese brothers to quietly enjoy their hunting hobby, as was happening prior to Malta’s membership in the European Union.

Not only did they praise it, but they also warned it not to permit again spring hunting.
With what the Government had done it is hoped that the measures which the
European Union had started to take against it because of spring hunting will be
stopped.
Not only, but it is hoped that the Government will be more favourably viewed by the Union leaders, notwithstanding the it will appear in bad light with the Maltese hunters and their families.
The denial of hunting disrupts the thousands of hunters for whom hunting was a hobby and rest which they would not trade for anything else.
There is great anger among the hunter’s families for the Maltese Government and the European Union because of the sense of frustration that is causing unwanted tension that is threatening family harmony.
That is why there are many complaints from housewives who are very anxious through seeing their husbands and children lost without hunting.
A letter that a hunter’s wife wrote in an English newspaper about the absurd decision by the Government to stop hunting caught our attention.
That is why we are going to translate it into Maltese because it shows how the Government reasoning is false.
The letter which appeared last Saturday states thus:

“If we use the Government reasoning, we should expect:
1. That all courts should be closed because we have had irresponsible Judges;
2. Maltese roads should be closed because we have had many cases of irresponsible drivers
3. Since it has been reported that some Parliamentary Members are acting irresponsibly, we should close Parliament;
4. The Church should be closed because of the irresponsible way that some clergy members had acted with children;
5. And if all this happens there would be no need for Police and for soldiers, and we could disband the two corps.
“Is it not every human activity that can be abused?
We expect that every abuse and cowardly action would be suppressed and not all activity.”

“Who knows if the Government decision to stop hunting is not only an excuse?
Could it not be that the assurances that the Government had succeeded in obtaining a derogation from the European Union for Spring hunting were all false?”
As it was a false story that Malta had to pass from the examination to be
allowed to adopt the euro when the European Union has long since agreed with the
Maltese Government to do so as from the coming 1 January.
Everything was a big propaganda exercise to influence the people in favour of the common EU currency that each country who became a member on 1 May 2004 was bound to introduce, today or tomorrow, whether it is in its interests or not.
