The disadvantages of the euro currency

The euro currency ended up as a great cross for many EU countries.
This is because those countries had to cough up with €110 billion to save Greece and had to set up a fund of €740 billion to help countries in financial difficulties.
If there was no euro, there would not have been the need for a loan of €110
billion and neither for a guarantee of €740 billion.
Otherwise this amount of money could have been invested in productive initiatives to increase wealth, apart from creating millions of jobs.

If
there was no euro, bankrupt countries would have solved their financial crisis
by devaluating their national currencies and thus, would get back on their own
feet.
Because of the euro, they cannot move forward and with them they have crucified the other countries, who like Malta, had to contract loans to help the other bankrupt countries.
The EU countries who like Malta have debt, continued to increase the debt when
they accepted to give their share.
Some of the EU countries that are in financial crisis, such as Spain and Ireland, contracted huge amounts of debt because they found rates of interest, after they had adopted the euro, lower than the rates that they used to pay when they had their own currencies.
As a consequence, they contracted more loans than they should have, and today are in great financial trouble because of the euro.
In Malta, the adoption of the euro increased the cost of living and increased the expenses of production and services, and this was the factor that brought a reduction in exports and hit badly the tourism industry.
As a
consequence we had a loss of many jobs and unemployment increased and the
standard of living of many families decreased.
Therefore not only was the adoption of the euro not beneficial for our country, but indeed served as a curse because of which our country had to contract more debt.
Criticism against the euro is very widespread.
Pree Steinbrick, who was the German Minister for Finance, has even called the euro “the lame duck” of Europe.
He said that the euro was one of the concessions that Germany had to make to France so that it would not oppose the unification of Germany.
France wanted that a united Germany cede its currency which was the strongest, the Deutschmark, and adopt the EU common currency, the euro. Kohl, who was the West German Chancellor, was aware that for the unification of Germany, he had to sacrifice the Deutschmark in the interests of the European Union.
What
Steinbrick said shows the hurried set up of the euro was a political act and
against all technical advice that had held that once there was still no
political union and neither was there in reality “mobility of labour” between
the EU countries principally because of the differences in language, it was not
wise to have a common currency.
Today
everyone knows about the technical difficulties that the common currency created
for many of the EU countries, and that these cannot be solved in a short time
because the euro is a millstone around their necks that does not permit taking
the necessary measures to revive their economies, without atrocious austerity
measures on the people.
On the part of the EU leaders that are taking measures to exploit the crisis caused by the euro for the EU to become one political Union.
The German newspaper Handelsblad, last week, thus wrote:
“So the European Union has now finally opened the door to economic union. Europeans will soon start to wonder how much national sovereignty they will be left with”.

This
is what the EU leaders want, that member countries not to be sovereign
countries, because the EU is interfering in the drafting of their budgets,
without the respective Ministers for Finance themselves having the power to
decide what he budget shall be.
This road to the political and economic union of the EU member countries is
happening without the people being given the opportunity to give it their
approval.
That is why the EU “Democratic Deficit” is increasing.
That is also why protests and revolts are happening against the measures announced in the budgets, as one can see from the big protest that was held in Brussels last week, with the call of
“No to Austerity”
Mistaken EU policy on illegal immigration

The
Maltese politicians accepted the EU policy on illegal immigration
notwithstanding that is damaging to our country.
When they were carrying out negotiations on Malta’s EU membership, it insisted that if the Maltese representatives do not accept all the EU regulations on illegal immigration the EU will not accept Malta’s membership.
The Maltese representatives ceded that damage will be caused to our country.
Now the Maltese people are suffering the consequences of that bad decision.
The first shortcoming of the EU policy on illegal immigration is that this started to apply to illegal immigration the regulations that had been made in the Refugee Convention for refugees to be granted asylum.
Refugees are those who have to leave their country either because of wars or because of political persecution.
The international convention recognizes that these persons should be given asylum as refugees.
Malta signed this Convention in 1971, but just the same did not accept the obligation to keep refugees here and this because of the circumstances of the small size of the country and the big size of the population.
The
EU insisted that Malta repeals these reservations that it had made in 1971 to
the Refugee Convention.
Not only.
But the EU bound Malta to observe the EU regulations on humanitarian protection that is granted to illegal immigrants.
Illegal immigrants are those who leave their country for economic reasons, mostly to find work.
When
the EU did so, it encouraged hundreds of thousands to leave their country to go
and find work in EU countries.
That is why the EU created an invasion of illegal immigrants with its regulations and policy.
The EU reasoning on illegal immigration is confounded.
The EU says that the North African countries should not allow illegal immigrants to leave from those countries for the EU countries.
At the same time the EU says that the EU countries should not send back the illegal immigrants to the North African countries from where they had left.
If
the illegal immigrants should not be sent back to those countries because of the
bad situation of the countries from where they came, are not the illegal
immigrants that the EU does not want to leave from the same countries in the
same bad situation?
The EU has another absurd regulation that states that an illegal immigrant that
enters an EU country must not be allowed to go to another EU country even if the
illegal immigrant did not want to go to the first country and always wanted to
go to another EU country.
With this regulation the EU is condemning the illegal immigrant to remain imprisoned in a country in which he doesn’t want to stay, and is imposing upon the country to keep an immigrant that the country does not want to keep.
The expense of great millions of euros from the EU on illegal immigrants is also
senseless.
The EU is spending a lot of money to sustain the Frontex Agency that it has to protect the EU frontiers.
But then the EU also gives great funds to member countries to keep in their country immigrants who manage to enter illegally.
Now the EU appears ready to pay billions to Libya not to allow illegal
immigrants to leave for the EU.
The EU is forgetting that these immigrants may be entitled to humanitarian protection.
It does not want them in EU countries and is ready to pay so that they don’t go there.
Then why is the EU not ready to say that it is not going to welcome more illegal immigrants, and if it wants so, the immigrants won’t try to go to the EU once they know that the EU shall send them back?
And
why should not the funds that the EU has for immigration be given to the
countries from where the immigrants leave, so that the funds will be used to
create work for the people of those countries?
Many critics of the EU policy on illegal immigration insist that after all the EU wants immigrants to go to the EU countries that have the need for them to expand their economy.
The EU does not care that some country, such as Malta, cannot accept refugees and immigrants, because they have a big population for the small size of the country.
That is why the EU does not allow Malta to allow illegal immigrants to to the
other EU countries.
It does not care that Malta cannot carry the burden of thousands of illegal immigrants, when it could not even keep the thousands of its own people from going to find work in other countries.
With European Union membership we lost our country’s independence
In
the Independence Day activities, the speakers took the occasion to deceive the
people on what we have acquired with our country’s EU membership.
It seems that they felt the need to make the people forget that our country has lost its independence when it passed to the EU the power in many important sectors.
The speakers in the Independence activities certainly wanted the people to
forget that even the budget is not decided by the Maltese Parliament, but there
has to be the approval of the EU prior to being presented to the Maltese
Parliamen
t.
Instead, they tried to justify the loss of the country’s independence to have
the opportunity to sit around the same table as the Minister and the other
leaders of the EU countries, the Prime Minister, the Ministers and other
speakers profaned the acquiring of Independence with the fib that the country
gained a lot with EU membership.
But
they did not explain to the people what is the amount of millions of euros that
our country has to pay to the EU (this year “66.5 million), and neither the
great amounts of money that our country spends every year in expenses because of
membership.
When all the payments made to the EU are added together with the expenses spent because of membership every year, it is found that they exceed many times the amount of funds that our country receives from the EU.
They do not want this fact to be known by the people and that is why they have never accepted the challenge made many time, to carry out a “cost-benefit analysis” of Malta’s EU membership.
A “Cost-benefit analysis” of Malta’s EU membership will uncover the lies that our country benefitted from membership.
In the Independence Day activities the Prime Minister said that the people had succeeded to overcome the difficulties of the economic crisis because they achieved their aims to eb an EU member and also succeeded to enter into the Euro Zone.
But the facts are the opposite of what the Prime Minister said, because the EU
policies and regulations kept the country backwards in exports and also in jobs,
and in tourism due to high prices.
The euro did not help the country’s economy and we ended up that because of the euro, the country had to incur a debt of great millions to loan them to Greece and to contribute to the fund set up by the EU to help euro countries who will be in great financial difficulties.
The
Vice-Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs bragged that with EU
membership, Malta increased it international role.
But in fact the opposite occurred because Malta’s voice was lost among the 27 EU countries and Malta no longer has its own foreign policy, but has to abide by the common foreign policy decided by the EU.
The Vice-Prime Minister also bragged that Malta has become a main interlocutor
among a number of countries.
He did not say that a while ago Malta could not even send Maltese citizens to Libya because the EU Schengen countries had boycotted Libyan citizens.
He also said that Malta’s bilateral relations with China and the Arab world had been greatly strengthened with EU’s membership.
But in fact it happened that the relations both with China and the Arab world and particularly with Libya deteriorated since Malta abandoned the policy of neutrality and non-alignment to implement the EU common foreign policy.
But
the worst gaffe was that of Minister Debono who said that EU membership is
permitting the Maltese people to live a standard of living that they are
enjoying now.
The Minister forgot that because of the high cost of living and the increase in expenses due to the EU policy many Maltese and Gozitan families saw their standard of living going down, more so those thousands of workers families who last their jobs or who’s working conditions deteriorated.
Certainly it was not the right occasion to speak about EU membership when one is commemorating the acquisition of Independence because with membership it is the country’s independence that was mostly lost.
