CAMPAIGN FOR NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE

Was, is and shall remain in favour of Maltese workers
and against Malta's membership of the European Union

TELL YOUR PARLIAMENTARY DEPUTY THAT YOU WANT MALTA TO REGAIN INDEPENDENCE AND FREEDOM
The EU made us lose Independence
Whoever is celebrating our country’s independence is playing the fool with the people since we have lost it with membership in the European Union.
Neither in the political sector nor in the economic one do
we have our will in our hands as long as we remain bound to implement the policy
that the Union decides in the two sectors.
In the years before we became independent, a number of important sectors, among them the national security and foreign affairs, were not in the hands of the Maltese Government because they were “reserved matters” in the hands of the British Government.
Therefore, while we had a Maltese Government elected democratically in a general election, Malta was not independent just the same.
It was dependent on the British Government.
With membership in the European Union, although we have a government elected in
a general election, our country did not remain independent because many sectors
are “reserved” for the Union.
Therefore our country has become dependent on the European
Union.
Membership in the European Union greatly limited our autonomy.
We can see
this as regards immigration to our country.
Before we became members in the Union, our politicians
were of the opinion that our country’s interests demanded that we control
foreigners from working in our country.
We did not do this because we were racists or against foreigners, but because our country is too small for our population, our limited resources do not permit that they are not used by the Maltese and Gozitan people, and we do lack enough work for our youths and workers.
That is why all the politicians used to agree that
foreigners would not be allowed to work in our country if we had Maltese and
Gozitans that could do the work the foreigners could do.
All this was disrupted by the membership in the European Union.
Our politicians had to bow their heads to what the Union wants that citizens of the Union have a legal right to come to work in Malta.
Because of this we already have thousands of immigrants in
our country from the Union countries that are legally taking the bread of the
Maltese and Gozitan workers and youths.
Our politicians did not only bow their heads in this case to what the European
Union wants.
They are also accepting what the Union wants us to do as
regards illegal immigration in our country.
Before we became members in the Union, all our politicians used to agree with
our law that provides that foreigners that were illegally in our country shall
be guilty of a breach of Maltese law and shall be ordered to leave our country
forthwith.
The Maltese law on illegal immigration is still the same as it was before our membership in the Union.
But it is not being applied because of the EU.
Worse than this, the Police Corps whose duty is to institute Court proceedings against illegal immigrants in our country, are instead being ordered to take care of them.
And the Armed Forces of Malta that have the duty to guard
against invasions of the Maltese territory are instead ordered to give their
help to the illegal immigrants who are invading our country.
All these breaches of our laws and of our territorial
security are happening because Malta has lost its sovereignty and independence,
on the strength of our membership in the EU.
The Maltese people are being alienated with the independence celebrations that
was lost, and when the people are being constantly betrayed because their main
interests of work and security are being sacrificed for the anti-national policy
of the European Union.
The Maltese and Gozitans shall again celebrate true independence when our
country will acquire it back from the European Union.
Although the politicians shy away from speaking about the subject of immigration, this is just the same one of the big problems that our country has and about which nothing is being made to overcome it.
The problem that is being created is not only by the
thousands of illegal immigrants that there are, but also by the thousands of
legal immigrants who came from the European Union after our country’s
membership in the Union.
According to figures given in an answer to a parliamentary question, about 5,000 persons from Union countries came to work in our country.
They all took the place of Maltese workers.
Many of the Union immigrants are working in tourism establishments in our
country.
In one of them, two out of every three of its employees
are Union immigrants.
The Union immigrants came to our country on the strength of the Union’s
freedom of movement of workers.
On the basis of the same rule, Maltese workers also found work in Union countries.
But while in the case of Maltese workers there were a few hundreds who enjoyed the freedom of movement right, there were thousands who on the strength of the same right came from the Union to work in our country.
That is why we have lost with the implementation of the
right of the freedom of movement of workers
We have this negative result of legal immigration within only three years that we have been members in the Union.
If we don’t so anything to stop legal immigrants from
the Union, in the coming years their thousands will continue to increase and the
problem that they take the work of Maltese workers will aggravate.
With the problem of foreigners who are coming to work legally in Malta, we have the serious problem of illegal immigration that, according to official information are already in their thousands and are constantly increasing.
Here, if the fault is not entirely, but for the greater part is that of the European Union.
Because the Union wants us to prevent illegal immigrants
who find themselves in our country from going where they wanted to go in other
Union countries.
It now clearly appears that the European Union does not know how to solve our illegal immigration problem, notwithstanding the many promises of both the European Commissioner Franco Frattini, as well as that of the President of the European Commission Josè Manuel Barroso.
It also clearly results that if these two have the good
will to help our country, the Union member countries do not have the will to
help our country overcome in this problem.
We should have understood after three years of membership
in the Union during which the problem of illegal immigration always continued to
increase, that the Union policy regarding illegal immigration is worsening our
situation, not helping us.
Questions
about membership in the EU not answered
How much is our country’s membership in the European Union costing the people?
This is a question that we have been making for a long time but which has not been answered.
Not because they do not know, but because they are ashamed to say how much.
They are ashamed to show the people that membership in the
Union is costing us more than we receive from the Union every year.
How many Government employees do we have whose working time is all dedicated to the Union?
They never tell us this, not because they do not know, but
because they do not want to show how much time membership in the Union is taking
without it being useful for our people.
What percentage of laws passed by the Maltese Parliament and of the regulations
issued by the Maltese Government are being made because the Union decided that
the member countries should make them?
Although they do not give this information, we know that the vast majority of the laws that are being made and the regulations that are being issued are coming from the European Union and not from the Maltese Government.
How much are the increases in the cost of living and the houses sky-high prices the effects of membership in the European Union?
There is no doubt that membership is causing the greater
part of the increase in both sectors, although this is not publicly admitted.
How many factories that have closed down in our country and of the thousands of
Maltese and Gozitan workers that were discharged were the consequences of our
country’s membership in the European Union?
The greater part of the factories closures and the workers
discharges occurred because of the Union policy that our country had to
implement, even though many bring the excuse of globalization.
How many of the taxes that the people are suffering were made because of the Union?
Many were made, such as VAT, the Eco Tax, the Levies on petroleum products and others.
How much has the Maltese Parliament remained sovereign?
Little, because apart from approving what the European
Union wants, it can pass nothing that is not according to what the Union
dictates.
How much is our country still independent?
It is no longer, because membership in the European Union
brought Malta’s integration in the Union.
It will be again an independent country when the Union can no longer dictate to
us what we do because we shall have left it.
What values did the Maltese people acquire from the Union?
Nothing because the Union lacks moral values and is full
of corruption, bureaucracy and inefficiency.
Can our country leave the Union?
Yes, it can easily do this whenever it wants, and it will
be to its advantage to do this today before tomorrow so that we will not let
greater damage be done to our country, and more to our youths’ future.
The Maltese advocates have awakened that they are threatened by the European Union.
The President of the Chamber of Advocates, in a letter
that he sent to advocates, told them that the Chamber of Advocates wishes to
represent all the Maltese Advocates “especially in view of the challenges that
are coming on the profession by the entry into force of different European
directives that are going to have a serious and immediate impact” on all
advocates.
So it is not only the workers who were hard hit with membership in the European Union.
Also hard hit were the entrepreneurs that used to work for
the local market and those entrepreneurs that used to export and had to close
down their factories in Malta.
Now we have the advocates who are admitting that they will be hard hit with
membership in the Union and want to stand up to this.
But the advocates ought to know that Malta, like all other Union member countries, is bound that if someone qualified in law from another member country demands a warrant to practice his profession in Malta, Malta must give him the warrant.
The advocates ought to know that because of membership in
the Union, foreign advocates from the Union countries have a right to come to
Malta, establish their office, be granted a warrant and practice as advocates
If they search for European Union Court decisions, they
will find a number of decided cases that all decided that every advocate from
every Union member country who goes to work in another member country must be
granted the same facilities that the advocates of the country where he goes
have, without and hindrance.
The ‘luck’ that has fallen on the advocates with membership in the European Union will fall on all those who require a warrant to practice their profession in Malta.
Whenever they want, foreigners qualified in other Union member countries can come to Malta and demand that they be granted a warrant to work in our country, similar to Maltese people in their profession.
To secure their interests the advocates and the other Maltese professionals have only one way as entrepreneurs and all workers sectors in our country have – to start on the way that shall take us out of the Union, and instead of remaining members in the Union, we will be members with it, on conditions fitting for us.
