WELCOME TO THE CNI WEBPAGE
CAMPAIGN FOR NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE

Was, is and shall remain in favour of Maltese workers
and against Malta's membership of the European Union
The European Union ordered that as from 2010 the Maltese and Gozitan people pay it
€182,192 daily stolen from your childrens mouths
The EU fisheries disaster
Derek
Bennett is one of the many English people who complain of the mistaken European
Union policy and who hold close to their heart the interests of the Maltese
people and are sorry that now that Malta has become an EU member is going to
suffer great harm from its policy.
Last weekend he wrote a letter in a local newspaper published in English in which he answered another letter that the previous week Anton. R. Borg had written in which he said that Bennett had said funny and laughable matters on the bad effects of the EU policy in the fisheries sector.
Bennet’s letter is interesting for the readers of this page and therefore we are translating it into Maltese.
The letter states that,
“If Anton R. Borg wishes to know funny and laughable matters, as he explained in his letter of 30 December on my comments on fishing in the European Union would do well to study better the Union Common Fisheries Policy.”
“He
will find that a vast amount of cod in the United Kingdom territorial waters,
which today have become “Union common resources”, is now very low. The few
fishermen that have remained in the United Kingdom have to go out fishing
according to permits that are given to them by the Brussels bureaucrats.
“These permits tell them what fish they can catch and what quantity of fish they
can land. The members of the British Westminster Parliament now have nothing to
do with the fish that the United Kingdom fishermen can catch.”
“Therefore the fishermen go out in the sea and cast their nets, and when they
find that the quality of fish in their nets is not according to the EU permits,
they have to throw away the dead fish back into the sea, because the permits do
not allow them to land those fish.”
The fishermen go to another area and cast their nets and again find that they have caught fish not according to the quality of the Union permits, and they have to again dump the fish back into the sea dead.
This happens to them more than once, twice and until they succeed in catching the quality of fish according to the quota of the Union permits, they pollute and make the bottom of the sea stink with the vast amount of dead fish. This, according to the strange rules and laws of the Union, is considered to be the manner of preserving fish in the seas.
“Only five percent of cod eaten in the United Kingdom is caught in the seas around our shores which are no longer British waters, because now they now belong to the European Union. The 95% of cod that is eaten in the United Kingdom is caught in the seas of countries who have not become Union members, such as Norway and Iceland.
“These two countries have the common sense to understand that Union
membership destroys their fishing industry. These countries that have control of
their fishing industry, to preserve the amount of fish have implemented
reasonable and good control for their fishing industry.
“On
the other hand, the European Union only knows how to preserve its bureaucracy at
the expense of the fishing industry that suffers from the Union rule and laws.
This is a funny story, if it was not a sad one”, ends Bennett’s letter from
Walsall, England.
It
should be remembered that a few weeks ago the Maltese fishermen protested
against the decision of the European Union that reduced their tuna quota that
they can catch.
We are sorry to remind them that the Commissioner responsible both for the reduction of the tuna quota for the Maltese fishermen, as well as the disaster that has hit the United Kingdom fishermen that Derek Bennett talked about is Maltese
The EU fisheries policy, is not being beneficial, but is causing losses and damage.
We should keep this in mind when we come to decide not to be burdened any longer with the EU regulations and laws.
Tales about the Euro and prices
The
committee responsible for the changeover from the Malta Lira to the Euro (NECC)
is distributing a very colorful calendar to every home in our country.
To try to drug the Maltese people that the Euro is not going to cause more increases in the cost of living, they wrote a propaganda message for every month of the year.
Some of these messages are banal and you would have to be a pigeon (simpleton)
to take them seriously.
Let’s quote some of them.
For January they wrote:
“This is fair – It is going to be easy to compare the prices around Europe as soon as we adopt the Euro”

Our
comments are:
So what, if you see some cheaper price outside Malta does it mean that those prices will become cheaper in Malta?
Is it not more important for the Maltese consumer to be able to compare the prices in Euros in Malta with what they were with the Malta Lira, especially when the prices will start being shown only in Euros?
In countries where the Euro has been in existence for four years there are still nearly half the people who cannot get used to the Euro.
For March they wrote:
“Start thinking about the Euro but remember that it is the currency that is going to be changed not the prices”
Our
comments are:
“Would you believe them.
In every country that adopted the Euro, the prices “changed” because they increased.
But in Malta, according to the NECC prophets, this is not going to happen.
Now when Prime Minister Gonzi himself admitted that he cannot do anything about the high prices, are we then going to believe the NECC prophets?
For May they wrote:
“The time has come to let your money see the light... put your mind at rest”.
Our
comments are:
It is true that you shall have to convert your money to the Euro, but as they wrote it, you expect the Euro to be more some form of religion when they wrote “your money will see the light”.
But
the best one was when they wrote
“Put your mind at rest”.
This reminded us when Dr Gonzi was still a Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Party and prior to the 1998 election he started shouting during a mass meeting “And from the day following the election, the Maltese people can put their mind at rest”.
You know how much we have put our mind at rest afterwards. And you can rest assured that this is what shall happen a short time after the Euro is introduced in our country.
For August they wrote:
“We will soon change over to the Euro… but there is still a chance to take a holiday this summer”.
Our comments are:
“It seems as if they are telling us that it is better we start thinking about taking a holiday next August because this may be the last holiday in our life with the shock that we will receive when the Euro is introduced in our country.
For October they wrote:
I remember that only three months are left for Malta to graduate to the Euro”.
Our
comment is this:
Don’t make us laugh at you any longer, NECC gentlemen.
This means that for the Government and these professors Malta today has still not graduated because we still have the Malta Lira, as the United States, England, Sweden, Denmark, Switzerland, Japan, Russia, China, Australia and tens of other countries who still have their currencies.
For November they wrote:
“Everything is marked with the Malta Lira and with the Euro... you can compare everything with the two prices”.
Our
comments are:
First of all the two prices are only going to be there for the first six months or at the most for one year.
Afterwards they will only be with the Euro.
And there will start the trickery.
Secondly, how can the price of services be shown with the two prices?
For example, a doctor who normally charges Lm4 for a patient home visit, according to the official Euro rate of exchange of 42.93 Malta cents this is supposed to amount to 9.31 Euros.
Who will ever believe that a doctor will now start asking you for 9.31 Euros and not at least 9.50 Euro or most probably 10 Euro?
The same applies for lawyers, mechanics, dentists, painters etc etc.
The NECC wise men did not write anything about the services prices.
Or are they going to make the doctors, lawyers, mechanics, dentists, painters, etc. etc. hang a notice on their suit or around their neck?
For December they wrote:
This next step is a historical one.. Let’s celebrate the arrival of the Euro together”.
Our comments are:
“They
very nearly want to compare the entry of the Euro into our country with the
entry of the Santa Maria convoy in the Grand Harbour on 15 August, 1942.
At that time the convoy saved us from famine as well as Malta not surrendering and be taken by the Nazi and Fascist forces.
They are projecting the Euro as something that is going to also save us and not
remain a second class country because now we are going to “graduate”.
What is going to happen is to undress us from the most precious dress that used to give us control on our economy and distinguished from the other people of the world to dress us instead in the uniform that they are going to dress up some 350 million people in Europe in it.
And to top it all, the NECC committee wants us to celebrate.
We understand that they have something to celebrate, because they are very handsomely.
But for the Maltese people to celebrate after losing their Independence and Freedom and are now also going to lose an important part of their identity is madness!
