Neutrality: the greatest protection for our country

The words of the American Ambassador against Malta’s neutrality raised a reaction among the public and letters and articles in newspapers about him were not lacking.

While when a few months ago the issue of neutrality was raised we had speakers from the political parties who explained their  opinion about it, this time the political parties remained silent, except that in a generic manner it was said that we should modernize the Constitution of Malta.

The fact that the American Ambassador showed himself publicly that he does not agree that our country be neutral and the fact that our politicians did not react to his writings, give place to serious worries that pressure is being exerted from outside our country not to remain neutral and that our politicians appear ready to yield to make the necessary changes to our Constitution.

Why did the Ambassador speak?

These two facts should have raised the ire and opposition of our people.

Because in the first place, the American Ambassador should not have said what he said about the neutrality of our country.

He not only criticized the important aspect of our country’s foreign policy,

* but against the Constitution of Malta

* that states that our country

* is a neutral state

* that actively works for peace,

* security and social progress among all nations,

* by adhering to as policy of non-alignment

* and refusing to participate in any military alliance.

It is certain that the American Government is not going to permit Malta’s Ambassador in the United States to publicly criticize the American foreign policy and speak against some part of the American Constitution.

The question therefore arises whether the Ambassador said what he said on his own initiative or was he otherwise instructed by his Government to say it?

If he was instructed, one would expect that this is the start of a process intended to lead our country not to remain neutral.

And the silence and lack of reaction from our politicians should be taken to mean that they are part of this process.

In other words, our politicians are going to yield to the pressure to throw away our country’s neutrality.

Because if our politicians are not ready to throw away our neutrality, we would have expected them to forthwith call upon the people to protest in the strongest manner against the American Ambassador’s speech writings and call upon the people to defend the policy of neutrality and the Constitution of our country.

What does the EU want?

This attack on the foreign policy of neutrality of our country is happening at a time when the European Union is taking concrete steps to give life to its foreign policy.

The Union has just appointed the British Lady Ashton as the EU speaker on its common foreign policy.

A group of thousands of officials is also being prepared to serve in the EU foreign affairs sector under the same Lady Ashton.

And the EU intends to draft its common foreign policy that will be the official foreign policy of all the member countries.

That is why the Union wants its foreign policy to also be the official foreign policy of Malta.

Once the European Union wants

* Malta to follow the common European foreign policy,

* the EU cannot continue to accept

* that Malta continues to follow a different policy of neutrality

*  as provided in the Constitution of Malta,

* once the Union foreign policy

* is not as policy of neutrality

* that does not allow the country to take part in a military alliance.

Therefore we expect the EU to exert pressure for the Constitution of Malta to be changed by removing the obligation that the country observes neutrality as provided by the Constitution of Malta.

The attacks that are being made against Malta’s neutrality are part of this covert exercise that the EU wants to conduct quickly without exposing its hand.

The EU knows that it will find those who are ready to serve it in our country!

We understand that the politicians are not going to find it easy to make the people understand that they do not want Malta to remain neutral.

They are going to present many reasons and bring many excuses to try to justify the changes in the Constitution.

But the true reason will be that the European Union and the United States do not want Malta to remain neutral.

In whose interest?

On this issue we should ask: the EU and the United States want Malta not to remain neutral and to enter into a military alliance with them, in Malta’s interest or in their interest?

The answer is obvious:

They want this to happen in their own interest and not for our interest.

But we, our first interests are to assure with the best possible means, the security and peace of the Maltese and the Gozitans.

And the best possible means to assure this is not to take part in the EU or United States military alliance, but not to be considered as enemies by those who are against Europe or the United States.

Because being neutral we will have no enemy!

Malta, the EuropeanUnion and illegal immigrants

By Marco P. Cachia

I was one of the first who accepted the thought and the policy that Malta becomes a European Union member and votes “Yes” in the referendum, among other reasons, because I used to believe that the EU was going to stop the illegal immigrants from entering.

But now that we have become Union members

* they are closing our mouths

* by giving us money to do so,

* we ended up by being inundated with them,

* we cannot say that we do not want to keep them,

* they are forcing us to give them the same rights as the Maltese citizens,

* if not prefer them,

* and if we do not do so

* they call us racists.

We have arrived at a situation where some employers,

* between a Maltese citizen and an immigrant,

* choose to employ the foreigners.

So much so

* that in a popular local hotel

* there is an immigrant as Chief Security Officer

* and both the hotel management

* as well as the Prime Minister

* appear to be happy with this,

* because they are allowing it to happen.

The same preferences with immigrants are also being made in some television programmes where they give prizes to immigrants so that they will not say that we are racists.

Frontex

When the set up of the maritime force Frontex was announced, I was happy because I said to myself that it was going to stop the illegal immigrants from continuing to leave their countries for Europe.

But now I see that this was another EU gimmick and unfortunately we fell for it.

It happened that a few months after it started functioning, Frontex developed into a rescue force and started being used to save the illegal immigrants who find themselves’ in difficulty.

Thus the scope of Frontex was totally lost and it became a force against the scope that it was set up for.

This is another EU failure in the problem of illegal immigration.

Burden sharing

Another EU gimmick is the burden sharing, that the Government is using to save its face for the political flop on immigration.

The Government is being hard-headed and first allows the illegal immigrants in and afterwards tries to send them to other countries in Europe or the United States of America.

The Government is hoping that the people swallow that this is the only solution to the problem.

But a good solution is to allow the immigrants in on condition that forthwith or as soon as possible they are repatriated or sent back whence they came from.

Thus, in a few weeks all the problem will be solved.

The Government ought to know that the Maltese people do not want to have thousands of illegal immigrants roaming their streets.

The crucifix

There is another question that is greatly troubling the people and this is the issue on crucifixes.

This issue was raised by a foreign person in Italy and therefore is an example of foreign interference.

The same can be done by the illegal immigrants who will start to interfere with us after they had thrown their anchors here.

Whenever they feel like it they can try to impose what they want on us.

Here one should ask the Maltese Government and the Maltese members of the European Parliament what would happen to us should we as Maltese citizens go to the illegal immigrant’s countries and start telling them not to continue doing this or to remove that thing because we do not like it?

I am certain that had we to do so, we would have been hanged and not allow us to file a case in the European Court that decided that in Europe crucifixes should be removed from classes (while the European Parliament said they should be removed from public places).

On this issue we should congratulate the Polish Government that showed how strong and serious it is, when it said that “whatever the Court decides, the crucifix is not going to be removed!”.

From my end I fear

* that this crucifixes issue is only a prelude

* of what we expect that can happen in future,

* such as the removal of crosses from churches,

* religious statues from wall niches,

* Baby Jesus and cribs during Christmas,

* stop us from taking out Good Friday

* saints statues in their respective feasts,

* not allow us to have processions in liturgical feasts,

* such as Good Friday,

* Christmas and others,

* and then they turn on the media

* and not allow television stations

* and newspapers

* to show religious manifestations

* and all this on the pretext

* not to offend the religious sentiments

* of those who are against these things.

To those who think that I am exaggerating I say that many times things start small and then grow bigger and it would be difficult to stop them.

There were more than one leader who started correctly and ended up as a dictator and his people could not move in the vise that they were held.

I feel that we need to tell the Prime Minister

* and the Maltese European Parliament Members

* that they should make it clear to the European Union that,

* whatever it says,

* we the Maltese and Gozitans

* are not going to remove the crucifixes

* and that we shall not be bought.
