WELCOME TO THE CNI WEBPAGE
CAMPAIGN FOR NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE

Was, is and shall remain in favour of Maltese workers
and against Malta's membership of the European Union
The European Union ordered that as from 2010 the Maltese and Gozitan people pay it €182,192 daily stolen from your childrens mouths
What we are losing because of membership in the European Union
Workers from EU countries have the right to come to work in our country instead of Maltese workers on the strength of Malta’s membership agreement in the European Union that the Maltese Parliament had approved.
According to an official Government statement, 2,759 workers from the Union have already come to work in Malta.
These have taken the place of 2,759 Maltese workers.
With the entry of Romania and Bulgaria in the European Union in the beginning of
this year, many more workers can come from these countries to work in Malta,
because while some Union countries have limited the entry of Romanian and
Bulgarian workers, our country did not make any limitations about them.
Some of the entrepreneurs in European Union countries are preferring to employ
foreign workers, because they will not be union members and the entrepreneurs
can pay them lower wages and give them lower working conditions than those of
local workers.
This means that
the foreign workers are not only taking the bread from Maltese workers who will
not find work, but they are also lowering the wages and working conditions of
workers in our country.
A few months ago, the European Union issued a directive about persons who
provide their services in other Union countries.
This directive is a serious threat for the workers of the country where the services are being given by persons from another member country.
Because according to this directive, it is not the labour laws of the country where the services are being given that are to apply, but those of the other Union country of the person providing the services.
Therefore, according to this European Union directive on services, a Bulgarian
company that sends it employees to Malta can pay them salaries according to what
they are paid in Bulgaria and not according to what Maltese workers are paid,
and can also not observe the working conditions of Maltese workers for them.
The same can be done by a Polish company that sends its workers to work in the Malta Shipyard.
It pays them wages and employs them with working conditions according to Polish labour laws and not those of Malta.
From official statements we know that 838 foreign workers came to work in
Malta’s Shipyard.
They all took the work from Maltese workers.
And this
happened when the European Union ordered the Maltese Government to discharge
more than one thousand workers from the Shipyard and also limited the volume of
work that can be made by the Shipyard.
If instead of the 838 foreign workers Maltese workers were employed in the
Shipyard, our country would have collected from them the Social Security
contributions and would have saved the payment of 838 unemployment benefits, and
above all, do social justice with 838 Maltese families.
All this is being lost because of our membership in the European Union.
Fifty years ago, the leaders of France, Western Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg signed a Treaty in Rome, known as the Rome Treaty, that set up the European Economic Community that during the years developed into today’s European Union.
Next March, in the European Union countries (including Malta), many activities
and ceremonies are going to be held to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of
the signing of the Treaty of Rome and the birth of the Union.
The Catholic Church is also going to commemorate this event by holding a Congress of the European Bishops in Rome organised by the Episcopal Conference of the Bishops of the Community (COMECE).
It was said that Malta’s Archbishop is going to take part in this Congress.
COMECE is
recognized and helped by the European Union and makes propaganda for it with the
European Catholics.
According to what was announced in a bombastic manner the Congress is going to
treat values and perspectives for the future of Europe by identifying basic
Christian values, confirm those values that have designed the process of the
European Union from its beginning and renew them, so that the European Union can
answer for what its citizens and the rest of the world are expecting from it.
It clearly appears that the congress is going to serve as a means of propaganda
for the European Union and is intended to leave an impact on European Catholics
in favour of the Union.
Catholic critics of the European Union are of the opinion that the Commission of the Episcopal Conferences of the European Community (COMECE) does not operate correctly when it adopts a position and makes propaganda in favour of the European Union as it is today.
They insist that the Union is a political and economic union and that the Bishops should not take part in the Union’s political and economic choices that many Christians do not agree with.
Union critics also remind that even if some of the aims of the European Union are good, just the same they cannot justify the bad means and methods of the Union, and this according to the principles that you should not use bad means to achieve good aims.
More so when these Union aims that are good can be achieved by another form of cooperation between the member countries in the Union and with a different policy than that chosen by the Union.
The Union’s Christian critics insist that when the Bishops issue statements in favour of the European Union as it is today, they will be blessing the Union’s political and economic choices that are not based on Christian principles of morality and ethics and on Christian social justice.

These critics
ask many questions.
They ask how can
the Bishops give their support for the Union’s economic policy built on the
market and profit that condemns millions of workers in the Union without work
for a number of years?
How can the Bishops approve the increase in social inequalities that the Union
policy is causing in the Union countries?
How can the
Bishops forget that the Union officially promotes values that are not in
agreement with Christian values and are even pagan?
Can the Bishops close their eyes to the widespread corruption that is wasting up
the Union and to the wastages that there are in the Union when in the Union
countries there is poverty and families lacking essential things for a decent
living?
Should not the Bishops speak against the enormous expenses on the armaments
industry in the European Union countries, that it is supplying to countries
outside the Union for the destructive wars of thousands of human beings and the
destruction of whole towns and cities?
These questions are about a few of the many objections that many Christians have
for the European Union as it is today and for the manner in which its policy is.
They are not of
little importance for many Maltese and Gozitans that surely do not expect that
their Archbishop does not care about them and lets himself be carried away by
the propagandistic fervour of the Commission of the Episcopal Conference that is
going to organize the Congress in Rome next month in favour of the European
Union as it is today.
In September
last year, in the homily of the Pontifical Mass on the Independence anniversary,
Archbishop Mercieca had said that the model of life as it is in the European
countries is bringing all sorts of evils and is making Europe morally and
spiritually sick.
These same thoughts about Europe were confirmed by the Italian Professor Salvino Acquaviva, an expert in sociology, in his book that has just been published with the title
“The Eclipse of Europe”.
Professor Acquaviva says that the ethics upon which the history of Europe was
modelled, are disappearing, and in Europe there is a crisis in the sphere of
justice that Europe was know for even from the time of the Roman Emperor
Justinian, so much so that the word “justice” is derived from his name.
According to this sociology expert, the pitiful situation of Europe is also
witnessed by widespread pornography and a number of other factors that are
causing social disruption, such as the breaking up of families and the
psychological poverty and the lack of ideals in the youthful generations.
All this is happening while Christian life is distancing itself from Europe.
And school is not only not helping to guard against these challenges, but has become a factor of mistaken obligatory education because it does not prepare the youths to live correctly, and the university education is causing them to lose their European identity
Professor Acquaviva insists that even in the economic sector Europe is in crisis as witnessed by the many enterprises that are growing weaker and the slow development, while the great number of immigrants are weakening the identity that Europe had.
There are other factors that are pushing back the quality of life in Europe, such as unbridled consumerism, the lack of strength in trade unions, the loss of fervour for work and the great number of holidays from work.
This sociology expert says that Europe is working with an old and unsuitable
policy for a world that has changed.
There is no longer the fervour for progress, and there are other factors that did not previously exist that are weighing the march of Europe.
These are the many media means that squeeze the human being, their voices and sounds that hammer listeners night and day, death has become a most common thing, the shameless dress fashion, and the artificial way of life broadcast by the media that is totally detached from the circumstances of life lived by the people.
And the lack of
fervour for life brought a reduction in the birth rate in Europe, while the
proportion of old people to working people is increasing.
